The Northern Third Piano Quartet
The Northern Third Piano Quartet returns to Brandon Music to perform a powerful musical program. This program includes solo and duo music of Mozart, Shostakovich, the U.S. premiere of Middlebury composer Jorge Martin's “Don't Know Yet”, and Schumann's Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major, Op. 47, one of the greatest works in the piano quartet repertoire. The Northern Third Piano Quartet, with member's violinist Sofia Hirsch , violist Elizabeth Reid , cellist John Dunlop and pianist Alison Bruce Cerutti perform throughout Vermont to both audience and critical acclaim. Recent venues include Norwich University and the Barre Opera House. The ensemble has been noted for its strength of ensemble playing and emotive musicality, offering audiences a showcase of Vermont's remarkable talent. Sofia Hirsch has been a member of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra for 15 years, and a founding member of the Burlington Chamber Orchestra. She plays widely across the state including with Handel Society of Boston and Hanover and the New York Chamber Soloists, among others. She was also co-founder and Co-Artistic Director of Burlington Ensemble, a Vermont based innovative professional chamber music group organizing collaboration between Violist Elizabeth Reid is in high demand as a musician in Vermont. Her playing has been described as having a “deep and expressive sound” and a “natural musicality” according to the Times Argus. Elizabeth has performed as principal violist of the Middlebury Opera Orchestra, as well as playing regularly with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Burlington Chamber Orchestra, and Arioso. She has a strong interest in contemporary music and has been involved in various premieres of solo and chamber works in Canada and the U.S. Cellist John Dunlop has been performing in the Northeast for over twenty five years as principal cellist with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Burlington Chamber Orchestra, Opera North and the Green Mountain Opera Festival. He has performed as soloist with both the VSO and BCO, as well as many chamber music performances with notable area musicians. He is currently the cellist with the TURN Project, a fledgeling new music ensemble. John has also composed and recorded several award-winning film soundtracks for short films, including a documentary on childhood hunger in Vermont, where he called on his skills as a guitarist and bouzouki player in addition to cello. Alison Bruce Cerutti has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Vermont, and as a flute accompanist in the U.S. and France. Alison has played with Arioso, Veritas, and the Bruce Klavier Duo, Burlington Civic Symphony, Vermont Philharmonic, as well as numerous collaborations with Vermont musicians. She has premiered works by Vermont composers Lydia Busler, Erik Nielsen, David Gunn, Dennis Bathory-Kitsz, and Jacob Morton-Black. Tickets are $20 with a pre-concert dinner also available for $20.
