SHEET MUSIC DEPARTMENT

We offer a small range of scores which are related to our CD releases; most will be from BML, though others will be stocked too such as the super music for saxophone by Thomas Fortmann (see below), which is published by Muller & Schade of Switzerland. Despite the similar name and sharing a webstore, Brandon Music Ltd is not the same business as Brandon Music (USA), though they do share one director. BML is a music publishing company based in London, England, which is associated with the Divine Art Recordings Group.

Two Balkan Dances for solo guitar (print version)
“Balkan Dances for solo guitar” (2007) by Smaro Gregoriadou consist of two fantasia-form compositions, based on themes, rhythms and melodies originated from the rich musical heritage of Balkan countries, “re-baptized” though in modern guitar’s unique sound spectrum. Dance Nr 1 is based on a Bulgarian folk wedding song of unfortunately unknown origins, at least to me. Dance Nr 2 is based on an epic song from Karpathos, Dodecanese, south-eastern Greece (“A brave young soldier…”.
The composition proposes several unconventional techniques, which guitarists are invited to freely explore.
“Balkan Dances for solo guitar” was recorded by the composer on the cd “Smaro Gregoriadou: reinventing guitar!” issued in 2009 by DELOS (DE 3398)

Eric Craven: SET for Piano (complete)
Eric Craven is fairly described as an unknown composer - except for a small circle of musicians in his NorthWest England homeland. His works, performed to private and professional gatherings, have drawn much praise, and his 'outing' as a serious and talented composer is overdue. Coupled with the fine premiere recording of this unique work by Mary Dullea (Metier MSV 28525) we are honored to present the first of Eric's works in print. He writes in a moderately tonal idiom but one which looks forward and is not 'traditional' in any way. This set of twelve pieces is partly in Craven's "non-prescriptive" style where in parts 1-11, the note values are fixed but the player may control tempo and dynamics; in Twelve, only the pitches are set and the performer has a great deal of latitude in expression and interpretation. A short guide to performance is printed in each score.

Craven: Set for Piano (complete) PDF

SCORE: Two Romantic Pieces for Flute and Piano (PDF download)
These two beautiful pieces are among many composed, around the turn of the 20th century, for or under the inspiration of the great French flute player and teacher Paul Taffanel. These and many other such works, highlights of the French Romantic tradition, were recorded by flautist Kenneth Smith and pianist Paul Rhodes, and were issued on the Divine Art label as a 3 CD set (DDA21371). New performing editions have been prepared by Ken Smith and several other similar works are in preparation. Kenneth Smith was for many years principal flute with the Philharmonia Orchestra in London until his retirement from that post in 2012. Each work is provided with separate solo flute part. The Nocturne is also available separately as BML206 and the Romance as BML207
