EDISON DIAMOND DISC Edison launched his disc record under pressure from staff, dealers and the public - but made them incompatible with all machines except his own. They were eccentric but produced a frst class sound, but their quirkiness and cost doomed them to ultimate failure. From 1914 the discs had no paper label and the etched details were very difficult to read, though a paper label appeared later. The entire Edison recording business closed in 1929.
