WINTER SUITE
CODY MICHAELS

Cody Michaels is a New Englander, pianist, composer, poet and storyteller, who has developed his own style which is difficult to classify; its emphasis on texture and structure over simple melody (where there are distinct melodic strands they are interwoven into the rippling arpeggios which underpin most pieces) well suits its purpose which is, for Cody, to make the piano a way to connect with the mystery of creation and for which every song is a prayer. His music is, then, rooted in Nature and the world in which we live, and has attracted a growing and loyal following.

This is Cody's fourth album: he's now working on the fifth.

a selection of concert reviews:
"Michaels work is ingeniously inspired, intricately composed, and phenomenally retained. As for words to describe his music, here are a few: beautiful, melodic, textured, evocative, transcendent." - (Jay Sprout, Artistic Director; "First Night" St. Johnsbury, VT
"Michaels' playing... has the depth and feel of a modern day Moonlight Sonata. It is textured in rhythms and rivulets of sound that tumble like a waterfall over moss covered granite, fluid over solid. This is music that takes you away" - RJ Lannan, The Sounding Board
"[Michaels gave] a wonderful performance... I would highly recommend him" - Michelle Pennington, Associate Programming Director, Currier Museum of Art; Manchester, NH
"For several years Montpelier pianist Cody Michaels has been releasing CDs of piano music, all his own compositions. His latest, "Winter Suite," is a very soothing aural take on this time of year. It is meditative, interesting and flawlessly executed. This is the type of album you place on the stereo when you want to take a break from the day's travails, when you need to cleanse the mind of worry and just relax. " - Art Edelstein (Times Argus)
