Libra Contemporary Ensemble

Libra Contemporary Ensemble was formed to create performance possibilities for a wide range of rarely-heard modern music.It was formed in 1991 by a group of fellow students at the Victorian Colllege of the Arts and now encompasses an extensive repertoire, working with bodies as diverse as symphony orchestras to thrash bands.

The ensemble is noted for its enthusiastic and well-polished performances, as well as for its support and recognition of young compositional talent, presneting new works by composers such as Michael Whiticker (on MD3183), Brenton Broadstock, Chris Dench, David L. Young and Newton Armstrong among others; in addition it has introduced to Australain audiences works by internationally accliamed composers such as brain Ferneyhough, Gyorgy Kurtag, Franco Donatoni, Michael Finnissy, Peter Maxwell Davies and Richard Barrett.
