| Akathistos was formed by Pauls Putnins in Jerusalem, Palestine.The choir consists of vocational choral and operatic singers who have emigrated to Palestine and Israel from the various republics of the former Soviet Union. |
| Pauls Putnins is a gifted Latvian singer and conductor; for several years, he was the soloist of the chamber choir Ave Sol, based in Riga. After graduating from the Riga Music Conservatory where he majored in conducting, he emigrated to Jerusalem and studied at Rubin's Academy of Music there. He has performed as both singer and conductor in Latvia, Israel, Germany and England. He formed the Akathistos Choir (see above) and remains their director. |
